چکیده
Chronic invasive granulomatous fungal sinusitis (CIGFS) caused by cryptococcus is extremely rare, especially in immunocompetent patients. We report two cases of CIGFS caused by cryptococcus in immunocompetent patients. Case 1 was infected in the left ethmoid sinus with orbital invaded later. Case 2 was infected in the left maxillary sinus and sphenoid sinus with Intracranial invaded later. The two cases all underwent two surgical operations, and postoperative pathology showed granulomatous inflammation. The third postoperative pathology confirmed cryptococcal infection by PAS and AB-PAS stain. Case 1 was underwent orbital exenteration debridement and appropriate antifungal therapy after surgery, and was followed up for 18 months without recurrence. Case 2 had no chance of surgery at last and went to a higher level hospital for continue therapy and then losted follow-up. Early recognition of cryptococcal sinusitis and appropriate surgery with administration of appropriate antifungal therapy has a great impact on the good prognosis.

Hard palate had been destroyed and bulged in to the oral cavity. Tumor was ...
متن کاملChronic Invasive Fungal Granuloma–A Diagnostic Dilemma in an Immunocompetent Host
Introduction: Invasive fungal sinusitis, though considered to be rare entity, is nowadays frequently encountered, not only in immunocompromised patients but also in immunocompetent patients. The changing prevalence towards immunocompetent hosts is due to the indiscriminate usage of broad spectrum antibiotics, steroids, and immunosuppressive drugs. Diagnosing invasive fungal sinusitis should not...
متن کاملDisseminated Aspergillosis due to Aspergillus niger in Immunocompetent Patient: A Case Report
Invasive aspergillosis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients. Many cases of pulmonary, cutaneous, cerebral, and paranasal sinus aspergillosis in immunocompetent patient were defined in literature but disseminated aspergillosis is very rare. Here we present an immunocompetent case with extrapulmonary disseminated aspergillosis due to Aspergillus niger, totally...
متن کاملEndoscopic Endonasal Surgery for Sinus Fungus Balls: Clinical, Radiological, Histopathological, and Microbiological Analysis of 40 Cases and Review of the Literature
Introduction: Paranasal sinus fungus ball (PSFB) is a non-invasive mycosis, which appears in immunocompetent patients, along with unilateral lesion. The purpose of this study was to analyse various symptoms of PSFB and its radiological, pathological, and microbiological findings. In addition, this study involved the investigation of the incidence of bacterial coinfection and surgical techniques...
متن کاملFungus balls of the paranasal sinuses.
Fungus balls of the paranasal sinuses represent a noninvasive manifestation of fungal sinusitis. Patients are immunocompetent but no more allergic than the general population. There is little tissue reaction to the tangled mat of hyphae. If the patient becomes immunocompromised, then the fungus ball may become invasive, as illustrated by an included case report. One hundred sixty-three addition...
